Challenges of PCOS

There are many possible challenges of PCOS. Challenges can become or seem worse when women eventually figure out what's causing their symptoms. This is because many women are not aware of PCOS and should know to take their symptoms seriously. Obesity is associated with PCOS and thus, can worsen symptoms and complications.

Normal vs PCOS ovary

The ovaries may be enlarged and have a number of follicles that encompass the eggs. This may result in pain because of the cycsts that form and may rupture. As a consequence, the ovaries might fail to function regularly. The dysfunctional ovaries lead to irregular periods that may be short or too long. It may also lead to infertility problems such as miscarriage, premature birth, or inabability to conveive or carry.

More Challenges include:
  • Prediabetes or type 2 diabetes
  • Gestational diabetes or pregnancy inducded high blood pressure
  • Sleep apnea
  • Depression, anxiety, and eating disorders
  • Nonalcoholic steatopatitis (severe liver inflammation cause by accumilating fat in the liver)
  • Metabolic syndrome (Conditions including high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and abnormal cholesterol levels that can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease).
  • Abnormal uterine bleeding
  • Endometrial cancer (Cancer of the uterine lining).
